The American Board of NLP was founded in 1995 by Dr. A. M. Krasner as an adjunct to the American Board of Hypnotherapy and has functioned as its sister organisation since then. ABNLP have a convention every February on President's Day weekend in Newport Beach with the ABH. They have over 500 institutes worldwide approved at the Trainer Level of NLP, and thousands of members. They believe in NLP and Hypnosis as being most excellent ways of creating personal growth and development.

Not much to say about my own experience with this organisation. I applied for membership in July 2012, paid somewhere in the region of $345. For this I received a membership pack consisting of a certificate for myself, a certificate for ClassNLP, a membership form to Xerox and hand out to my students, a Post-It pad with ABNLP logo and a Pen with ABNLP logo.  There wasn't even any information included about ABNLP or their standards. After a year I didn't receive a renewal reminder and have not bothered to renewed my membershp. Short & sweet!

It is highly criticised by the other International NLP membership organisations for its low standards, but they accept ABNLP certificates for membership of the same organisations... hmmmm....

Their Business

ABH-ABNLP is owned by Tad James, a long established and dynamic NLP Trainer, infact one of the early NLP Trainers.  He is famous for modelling Hawaiian Huna.

ABNLP has become known for the short 7 day, intensive NLP Certification courses, 6 days in India somehow.  Standards and content are maintained through the innovative approach of providing pre-course materials such as audio CD's and video DVD's.

David Shephard of the Performance Partnership in London, UK is the current President of the American Board of NLP.

Their Standards

Throughout the world, the standards for each of the membership levels are pretty much the same. For example, an NLP Training in Australia, the UK or Germany is very much like an NLP Practitioner Training in the United States.

Each of the Certified Trainers will cover the same content as is outlined on the Standards pages. What differs is style of presentation, length of time, use of computer graphics and the use of multi-media learning options.

Throughout the world compliance with these standards is voluntary, and so you will also find people teaching NLP who do not adhere to these standards.
